New Postings:

From Jim Raffa,

Not much to report.  Still in D-Town about 25 feet from Belmont.  Playing the market every day but can not seem to make any real progress or cash in big. Caught a couple of IPO's but lost big on gold futures.  Clawing back but it is too unpredictable right now to really score.  Like the web site and a good picture of me and a hurdle.  Will keep in touch and hope to see you at the next reunion if my parole gets granted.

PS.  Liked the 4th and 5th grade of Miss Sproll’s US Grant Pictures.

You look just like you did in the 5th grade!  Hahaaa  Hi Marti!

God Bless,

Jim

From Steve Germann

        Hey Mike,

I was just looking at Belmont 1965 site and looked at photos from 45th reunion. How did those other people get so old?Saw the notice asking for kid pictures so I am forwarding a couple. Maybe you can cut and paste them in a better way. Daughter Alison (age 27) graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago in Dec. of 2009. She works at a interior design/furniture business in Chicago. Son Andrew (age 25) graduated from Univ. of Cincinnati School of Architecture in June, 2008. He is working as an architect in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Hope to see you soon at one of our Chadwell get-togethers.

From Connie (Hensley) Barker

Hi. Mike and Marty,

Sorry I didn't make it to the reunion. We were out west and seeing friends. We had been to Ohio in July for my husbands reunion. But Ii hope everyone had a good time and it was a good turnout. I really missed being there. Hope you both are doing well and hope to see you for the next reunion. Connie Hensley Barker joco4246@yahoo.com. Thank you for all your work on this , can't wait to see the pictures . Take care Connie

From Jeff Hoffer

Sorry we couldn't attend the 45th reunion party, but as others have said, we'll make every effort to attend the 50th.

Here is a brief history since graduation: I attended Miami U. (along with many others from our class) and graduated in 1969. Patty (Tann, from Columbus) and I met at Miami and married in the summer of 1969 (several guys from our class were in the wedding party, and Jack Snyder was my best man). We then went to Cornell University, and I received a PhD in Operations Research from there in 1973. I taught management information systems in the business schools of Case Western (1973-1980), Indiana University-Bloomington (1980-1995), and then returned to Dayton to UD (1995-2007). I retired in 2007 after serving as department chair during most of my time at UD. I frequently saw Linda Snyder (Belmont 1966) at UD, where she has been on the faculty of the Music Department and held positions in the office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences, We still live in Centerville during the summers and have a 2nd home in Naples, Florida, where we spend the winters.

We have two daughters: one in Indianapolis (with two granddaughters and one grandson) and one in Raleigh, NC (with two grandsons). We travel a lot (really enjoy cruises, and we re-enacted our honeymoon trip for our 40th anniversary in 2009), play golf (primarily Sugar Valley CC in Bellbrook) and tennis, and are active in our church (in Kettering).

Professionally, besides teaching and research, I've written 5 college-level textbooks (we just published the 10th edition of the one on database management), and I have held leadership roles in several national and international academic professional organizations, including one supported by Teradata (based here in Dayton).

Besides my earlier message about Jack Snyder, I have some, albeit sketchy, information about a few of our other fellow graduates:

- I've seen Dyke Thornburg several times. I believe he is now retired from teaching in the Dayton Public Schools, and claims to be the biggest Ben Rothlesberger fan of all times.

- Dave Kraus, as many of you probably know, taught at Belmont and was active in the athletic program there. After he retired from secondary teaching, he became a golf instructor, serving at two courses in the Dayton area. He and his wife adopted two children (I think from Russia), and last I heard he and his family is living in Florida, where he continues his golf teaching passion.

From Dan Dopko

We had a great time at the 45th Class Reunion and enjoyed seeing old friends. Looking forward to 50th and birthday party for age 65.

From Nancy (Ardrey) Mayer

I was Nancy Ardrey in 1965.  I am now "kinda" permanently relocated to Charlotte NC where I work for the Felony Investigations unit for the Charlotte Police Dept.  I lived in PA for 28 years before returning to Dayton on 1999.  In 2003 I moved to Charlotte to be near my daughter and her family. Tom Barnes and I have a 36 year old son who is a police officer and lives near Tom in Hampton VA.  My youngest son who is 27 is also a police officer in York, Pa.  My daughter is 30 and my 3rd son is 29.  He was with us in Charlotte for the past 16 months as a personal trainer and has just taken a position with a resort in Glendale AZ as Manager/trainer.  I have 5 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren.  I enjoy just about any sport there is and still have hopes of conquering a 10K.  I look forward to our 40th reunion in September.

I have lived in southern Virginia for 35 years.  I was stationed here in the Air Force and just stayed here when I got out in 1972.  I have been fortunate enough to work in and manage several of the finest department stores in the south over the years. All were in the Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Williamsburg areas of south eastern Virginia. I have worked for Hecht's department stores for 29 years as Vice President and General Manager.  We are a division of May department stores and just this week merged with Federated.  My store will become Macy's next year.  I have been so fortunate in my life.

I am building my retirement home in North Port, Fla near the Gulf of Mexico and plan to move there in 2 short years.  My son and his family live near me. Nancy Ardrey and I keep in close touch and I usually get to Dayton once a year to visit my mother and sister who live in Kettering.  I enjoy playing golf and plan to play more when I retire.

News from Jim Cowan

Hi Mike, this is Jim Cowan, I'm not sure if you remember me. I was wondering if you know about when Ronald Burger passed away. I saw his picture on the web site. The reason why I asked is because I saw him this past august. I still live in Dayton and work at the Dayton Job center. I’m the security supervisor, that’s where I saw Ronald. If you want to add my name to the classmate list it's ok. I retired from Ohio Bell/Ameritech in 1994 after 29 yrs. I now work for securities security services. (used to be Pinkerton).I got divorced after 27 yrs (don't know why it took me so long). I have 2 children 34 yr old daughter, 28 yr old son. 2 grand daughters, 4&14 yrs old. I remarried in 2000. I'd to say hi to everyone, maybe be at the 60th birthday party. Sorry I missed the reunion. Take care Mike, and thank you.   Jim

 From Jim Day:

Attached you will find a picture of my first grandchild.  Ashleigh Elizabeth.  Born 12:06 P.M. on Monday 3/6/06. I'm  so proud and thankful I could just explode!

Mike,

Your "In Memoriam" page is very poignant. I never really knew the details of Dave's death. He and I were going to join the Navy on the "buddy" plan back in 65'. We were supposed to remain together throughout our enlistment. Same boot camp company, same ship etc. Somehow, Dave didn't pass one of the Navy's tests. They told him he could try again in 6 months. Of course I was stuck with it and they packed me off to Great Lakes Naval Training Command. Meanwhile, Dave was drafted.

We were great friends and got to see each other one last time (although we didn't know it at the time) while we were both on leave in Dayton. I think it was 6 months later when I learned of his death. Thanks to your research, I finally know where and how it happened. Thank you, Mike.

I go to see his name whenever I visit friends in Arlington. Sometime next month I'll be going there to play golf with a group of friends. I'll be sure to go to the wall and get photos of both Ronald Best and Charles McIntosh. I'll send them to you to complete the tribute.

I am the general superintendent for a construction management firm that builds anchor store buildings in major malls throughout the country as well as other types of commercial buildings. I also recently built the first S.P.C.A. facility in the country that does not euthanize. It received national attention in architectural publications and is used a training case study in many architectural colleges. All this, of course, requires a considerable amount of travel. For this reason, I may not be able to make this year's reunion, but I will certainly make every effort. I am soon to be a grandfather for the first time and find myself actually feeling younger because of it. What a thrill! I have been involved in Special Olympics over the years and find it to be the most satisfying way of giving something back. I have been single for the past 25 years and find this very satisfying as well. I am a golf nut and play as often as my schedule will allow. As with most non-pros, my handicap is my swing, but it's still the most fun a man can have while losing his temper. Hope to see you at the reunion.

From Lynn Laymon

After a 20-year career at AT&T headquarters in New Jersey in 1987 I jumped at the opportunity to early out, sold just about everything we owned and headed for the Caribbean to teach scuba diving and pursue underwater photography. Following two years in the Cayman Islands we took off to explore the Pacific. That led to 8 years in Lahaina, Maui, two books and a new writing career. For the past 19 years my wife Linda and I have been monthly contributors to Dive Training magazine, an international scuba publication, RV publications Highways and MotorHome and others. For being semiretired we work way too hard.
In 1996 we tired of swaying palms and powdery beaches, returned to the mainland and began exploring North America in a 40' motor coach. After 14 years of a totally nomadic lifestyle, today we spend the winters in Arizona and the summers traveling, often to pickleball tournaments. When you cease laughing over the name and want to learn more about this fast-paced court game visit
www.USAPA.org.
We won't make the 45th reunion, but plan not to miss the 50th.

From Juanita ( Monjar) Baker

Hubby and I are both GM retirees since 1995 – We travel back and forth from here in Ohio to our place in Ky. on Cumberland Lake – boating of course – families always coming down to visit + more boating. Then in the winter right after Christmas, our feet become itchy and ready to go south (snowbirds) to Florida for three months. So, as you can see we do a lot of traveling and have great times and create many memories with our families.

 From Rick Morehead:

Mike,

I remember you from Grant Elementary. We were all into friendship rings & going steady in the 5th, 6th and 7th grades. I remember you going with a girl named Eileen Horne & a blonde whose name I don't recall. My teachers were Mrs. Coleman (3rd), Mrs. Dunlape (5th), Mrs. Scheu (6th) & Mrs. Fowler (Art Teacher). My closest friends were Rob Morris (whom I can't find now), Bill McCoy & Carol Ann Fink. David Scott lived across the street from me on Woodcliffe Ave. near the school. I would like to find Kathy Kuhls (a year before us). I pursued a career in the Arts, teaching Art for 2 years at Holmes H.S. in Covington, KY. Then spent 10 years with Mercantile Stores, designing displays & store interiors, ended up in the academic world; teaching Interior Design at Morehead State Univ. in KY. I hold degrees from Miami of Ohio, Univ. of Louisville and Univ. of KY. My life has been very fortunate. I am now travelling extensively in Europe for the past four years. Really enjoyed especially the pictures & names on the website.

Mike,  Please edit my information in the Class News section of the Home Page.

Thanks.

After graduation I attended Ohio University where I was a cheerleader.  I graduated in 1970 with a B.S. in Education,  I also met my husband of 37 years.  After graduation Dick accepted a commission in the Army, from this point on we have traveled and lived several places.  We have three children,  Kristen, Matthew and Heather.   Kristen is married with two daughters, Hannah and Heather.  Matt is married with one son, Aidan and Heather is married with a son Henry and a daughter Diana.  All children and grandchildren live close by so we are fortunate enough to enjoy them regularly.

Dick is a Field Area Sales Manager now with General Motors so after the military we continued to move around.  We now live in Murfreesboro, Tennessee where we plan to retire someday.  Currently I work in the Athletic Department of Middle Tennessee State University.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.

From James Raffa

Released from Lebanon Correctional Facility in 2003 after serving 5 years for various offences. Am now on parole and unemployed and living in a cardboard box next to the dumpster on Ludlow in Dayton, Ohio. Looking to move into a refrigerator box soon and double my allotment of public assistance and food stamps. My shrink says it’s all in my head, but my other personalities tell me he is not a Belmont grad. Doctors also say the bullet in my brain does not effect my ability to see colour.

Thanks for the donations, James Raffa

From Dave Schlotterbeck

Just sold my NYSE Company for $ 2 Billion . Yes $ 2 Billion! Wish I could come – But business prevails – I’ll make the 50th.   Way to go Dave!!

From David Scott

Sorry I can't make it to the reunion. I live on a barrier island off the coast of west central Fl. called Anna Maria. I work with special needs infants. Life sure has been a strange trip indeed. On the deceased you forgot David Horn, who died in Viet Nam, now a vacation spot for the trendy world traveler. I leave you with this thought; from peace within will come peace throughout.

From Brenda Shouse

Mike and Marty - I don't believe I happened on this.  Brenda Shouse is found - 1506 Deerfield Way, LaFollette, TN 37766. We life in a community called Deerfield, on Norris Lake - built our home here 10 years ago. We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary last October, took our family to the Biltmore in Ashville, NC to celebrate. Jim and I are doing great, still working too hard; but enjoying life. I have hated to miss reunions; but would love to come to the 60th party - sounds like a great time. Marty, you dear, sweet, funny lady - it sounds like your life is wonderful - we could not be happier for you. We talked with Erich Meyer about a month ago, he called to say Dale had died very unexpectedly - he had become quite a celebrity. Too much to tell, I will have Jim find the website and send it to you. I have to run, we are leaving for Chattanooga - going to spend weekend with my brother and his wife - our entire family is in Tennessee now. I will be in touch. Glad to know you are both doing well.

Re: Belmont High

"My wife, Deb, and I went to a reunion but I can't remember which one it was.  It seems like it might have been the 20th. We moved back from Florida in 1980 where we had lived from 1973.  We moved to Nevada in 2000. We live in Panaca, Nevada a very rural county.  I have been in Law enforcement for the past nine years after about twenty six years as a Drug Counselor and work in health care. We had visited here for about ten years before we moved here and finally took the chance to live where we loved the mounains. We live in a town of about 900 with only 4000 in Lincoln county which is bigger than Rhode Island. We have been married almost 40years. Based on your Florida and Beavercreek moves I assume you are  retired. Good to hear from you.  Tell anyone else that might remember me I said hi. We have only been back to Dayton once in the last nine years to see our granddaughter, brother and other family."
